Ever found yourself silently wondering “should I use further or farther?” Even the best and most experienced writers have moments of doubt and second-guessing themselves when it comes to grammar and punctuation. Instead of winging it and hoping for the best, here are a few great sites to help you tighten up your writing and keep things accurate.
Purdue Owl Online Writing Lab: A great site for confirming what should be italicized, Purdue Owl also offers information for citations of book titles, magazine articles, and articles found on blogs or websites.
Grammarbook.com. Just about anything you want to know regarding punctuation and grammar can be found here. Grammarbook also offers information regarding proper capitalization, hyphens, dashes and commonly confused words.
Grammarly: Grammarly has been featured in mega-publications like The Wall Street Journal and online giant Mashable. It touts itself as “the world’s best grammar checking and writing support app” and is basically an automated proofreader and personal grammar coach. It can also correct up to 10 times more mistakes than popular word processors. However … while it has a 7 day free trial, Grammarly is pricey at a whopping $29.95 per month. AND, you can’t find out how much it actually costs until you click through to the 7 day free trial page, which seems a little too evasive for me.
